This article is about Harvard students being warned about the harmful effects and hospitalization of many of their peers. I personally have had one four loko in my life and trust me I will never have another one. I never get that drunk and after one of these it was scary. (p.s. I am 21) I saw one of my friend's facebook status last night, which said "Let's help keep each other safe and healthy by avoiding Four Loko." This was at Northeaster and I also saw a similar one that was for UMASS Amherst. I think this is a good warning, because I don't think anyone should drink these they are so dangerous. Also I am not trying to bring peoples fun down, because I like to go out and celebrate the weekend as much as the next person. However, this drink is very dangerous.
A 23.5-ounce can sells for about $2.50 and has an alcohol content of 12 percent, comparable to four beers, according to the company's website. A lot of Boston liquor stores have stopped selling it, because it has been called "liquid crack" or "cocaine in a can".

Wasn't this stuff created as a joke by some BU students? I can't believe that it has become so popular. Mixing alcohol and high levels of caffeine is so dangerous.
ReplyDeleteIt was created by Ohio State grads, because they were trying to help college kids get really drunk and save cash. I think it was a joke at first, but now their sooo popular. In Mass they just got popular with college kids I think.
ReplyDeleteYeah people around here had just started to hear about them when they started banning them in other states. And obviously all the publicity four loko is getting, isnt really helping kids stay clear from this but make them more interested in it.I have had one of these things and for the most part it was just disgusting but for the price of 2.50 whos really complainging right? the mixture of caffiene with alchohol tricks your body to feeling less drunk and tired at first untill the caffiene wears off. this is the dangerous part because then you keep drinking till you feel drunk. yikes..
ReplyDeleteI'm an RA and at one of our staff meetings we had to talk about this because it is starting to become a major issue. It's absolutely ridiculous that people think it's alright to drink four or five of these at a time PLUS other types of alcohol as well! People need to be more smart, but more importantly this is a product that should probably be banned for good. All it's doing is causing problems.
